Partly Facetious: the irony of Faisal's tirade

"BB is power hungry and has no interest in democracy."
Published July 16, 2005

"BB is power hungry and has no interest in democracy."
"That's true. Who said that? Another power hungry politician with no interest in democracy?"
"The Jiyala turncoat - Faisal Saleh Hayat. He is power hungry with no interest in democracy but his ambitions are not as high as BB's if you know what I mean."
"Yes I do. He certainly believes in burning all the bridges - a tad foolish given our politics - one day here the other day on the opposite side, the third day back where you began..."
"Yes I agree but remember in the interest of power the leaders also forget the past - why, BB even forgave those who were indirectly responsible for her father's death."
"That's certainly true. So change of heart has to be both ways and is within the realm of possibility in our politics notwithstanding the intensity of the transgression."
"If you bring in enough MNAs/MPAs with you then all is forgiven and forgotten."
"But the irony is that Faisal made allegations against BB that are equally relevant about those he serves today."
"That's not an irony in our politics. Our politicians don't change and need I remind you that those who come from outside the political arena quickly develop the same tendencies as the rest of the lot..."
"I see where you are leading but my point is simple: BB had more democratic credentials than Musharraf or even the Chosen One."
"Faisal was probably referring to lack of democracy within the party. True BB was elected but within the party she brooked no criticism of herself, her husband..."
"Ah yes, that's where the problem lay, didn't it."
"Indeed it did. But to be fair to Faisal he never said the present dispensation is democratic or not power hungry."
"I thought he was angry at them. Didn't they take away the important ministry of Internal Affairs from him and give him Kashmir Affairs."
"Kashmir Affairs is important."
"Considering that we don't have half of Kashmir and the half we do have has its own PM and President I wonder what he actually does all day. And don't forget the Indians are certainly not going to talk about Kashmir, and in the unlikely event that they do they are certainly not going to talk to Faisal, maybe Musharraf but not Faisal."
"The important thing is he gets some trips abroad, gets a car with a flag, so what if he can't take decisions..."
"But then which minister is taking decisions. All instructions come from the Army House I understand."
"That's true too."
